Types of Visa For Visiting the United States

The United States is a beautiful country and is among the favorite tourist destinations of many tourists around the world. In addition, the United States is one of the most successful countries in terms of economical growth which have attracted people from other nations to reside or work in this country for better living conditions, and to receive a higher salary.

Millions of people from other countries visit the United States every year for different reasons. They travel to the country as tourists to visit their friends and relatives. Some travel for other reasons such as attending a seminar, conferences, training, medical needs, exchange programs, temporary worker, business meetings or decided to reside in the US.

As a matter of government policy, any foreigner entering into other countries must first secure a visa.. So it is important that you have knowledge on what kind of visa you need to apply for, which depends on the purpose of your trip.

Every year many people from different countries apply for US visas such as visitor visa, work visa and immigration visa. Application for visa includes securing an application form and attending a series of interviews. The US Embassy in the respective countries of the visitor will do necessary counter checking of all data provided through an interagency database. All submitted documents will be verified by the concerned agencies.

Just recently, the United States government has updated the policies in visa applications in order to provide better security for visitors and the American citizens. The evaluation and screening process are stricter in this time of economic recession. Visa application procedures have improved a lot with the implementation of an automated system for faster processing.

US visas are categorized into two; the immigrant visa and the non-immigrant visa.

The immigrant visa is sought by foreigners who have long term plans of permanently residing or working in the United States. However, the applicant should be sponsored by an employer or a relative who is a US citizen before being eligible for an immigrant visa.

This also requires that the petitioner should fill up the Affidavit of Support form which will indicate his financial capability to support the immigrant during his stay in the country. Normally, the process of applying for an immigrant visa can take up as long as two to three years to complete.

With respect to this application, the US government implements an immigration visa lottery in which lucky winners can have the opportunity to be given special privileges in shortening the application process to about two or three months only.

The non-immigrant visas can be applied for a foreigner who intends to stay in the United States for a short period of time. This is a visa that allows a person to stay in the country on a temporary basis.

Non-immigrant visas are commonly applied by tourists, performers, government officials, journalists, trainees, students and temporary workers. It can also be used for other purposes such as for medical treatment and business meetings. For temporary worker visa it is necessary that the petition be first approved by the US immigration including the Naturalization Service before proceeding with the application.

When you have plans in visiting the United States for whatever purpose, it is important to process ahead of time and to comply with all the necessary requirements. This will significantly avoid any delays on your travel. It is important to gather more details to the nearest US Embassy in your country to know the policies concerning your travel.

Getting A Visa In Thailand: Easy Steps

Thailand is a country full of beauty and mystique. The culture of the country is a combination of ancient customs and modern complexity. With a climate of tropical weather, visiting Thailand can take some getting used to when first arriving. Thailand is a country of extremes, both in climate and culture. There is a polarizing effect between the extreme wealth of the middle and upper classes, and the almost third world poverty of the lower-class. For US citizens traveling to Thailand for a stay of less than thirty (30) days, there is no visa requirement. You will however, be required to have a current US passport and a return ticket to the USA in hand to gain entry. For other foreigners to stay in Thailand for any length of stay, either short-term or long-term, a visa may be required. You will need to verify the visa requirements for the country from which your passport is issued. You may do this via the Thai Immigration Bureau’s website or via your own country’s immigration site, if available. Most foreign visas require arranged living accommodations during your stay. If staying in the city for a week or longer, a living arrangement such as a serviced apartment may be optimum. However, if you will be staying for just a few days, a hotel may be your best option. There are online companies that cater to providing serviced apartments for business travelers to many major cities in Asia, including Thailand. Other than US citizens, if you require an entry visa, you must obtain it prior to travel to Thailand. If you are a US citizen seeking a stay longer than 30 days, you must also apply and receive your visa prior to entry. A visa is the stamp that is added to your passport. Remember that for non-US citizens, any length of stay in Thailand, a visa may be mandatory. You can get this stamp at the Thai Embassy, or via an agent or on with an online application. To apply for a visa in Thailand, there is a requirement to obtain certain documents that may have fees applicable to them. However, it is a necessity to have all necessary information on the application to be approved. The requirements for obtaining a visa are: • Adhering to certain applications that are applied to every visa for a stay of 6 months or more. • A completed visa application form available at the Thai Embassy or from the Thai Immigration Bureau. • A photograph of the visa applicant that matches the passport identification • A round-trip physical or e-ticket • Proof of financial solvency that verifies you will have the adequate funds for your stay It is important to remember that the consul may request additional documents at their discretion. Visa applicants must be in a good state of overall health and if requested must be able to prove their financial solvency. The usual fee for obtaining a visa is $30 per person. The fee is subject to change without notice. It is wise to obtain the most recent information about the mandatory fees for a visa application on the Thai website or from the Thai consulate. The fee requirements are based on your native country. However, it is typical for the Thai consulate to set their fees at a flat rate, so research is required prior to effecting payment. After 30 days a traveler wishing to remain in Thailand will need to reapply for their visa extension. After obtaining an extended visa, you will have another 30 days before you will need to reapply once again. To file for a visa extension, you simply need to contact the Thai Immigration Bureau.

One of the prerequisites for obtaining a Thai visa is having set living arrangements. Finding a serviced apartment is a good option for people who will be staying for a week or longer in the country. The website Moveandstay.com features complete listings of all serviced apartments in Bangkok and other major Asian cities.

Online Travel Company Yatra.com

The profile of Indian travellers visiting international destinations has changed and today many of them are able to take snap decisions and plan international travel within a few days, says the online travel company Yatra.com’s cofounder Sabina Chopra.Earlier, Indians used to plan in advance â€" at least 30-45 days â€" for international travel. For instance, for a summer vacation in May-June they would start planning in February or March. But for a year now, and thanks to relaxation in visa norms in countries such as Thailand and Sri Lanka where you can get visa on arrival, we are now seeing bookings coming in as late as 3-7 days from the date of journey. While youngsters tend to book flights and hotels on the Website like yatra.com and plan sightseeing tours and other interests on their own, Yatra’s holiday packages are becoming popular too. Some of them have booked domestic and international flights from yatra.com earlier and now want a more mature product like a holiday package. The flavours of the moment are Thailand, Macau, Sri Lanka and Singapore, the last for the FI event. But the trends keep changing. During summer months European holidays are very popular, but this is the season for shorter breaks and most people are headed towards east as well as Dubai for 4-5 day trips. During winter, leisure tours to Australia are popular, as also Switzerland, which is the destination favoured mainly by honeymooners, says Sabina. While a European holiday costs about Rs 1 lakh per person, Switzerland packages, including travel, are available for Rs 60,000 per person for five nights and six days. If needed, Yatra offers assistance with visas at no extra charge in cities from where visas are issued.Interestingly, Indian travellers are quickly moving away from organised group tours to individual tours. That is the biggest trend that we are seeing. We do organise such tours on special requests but we believe, as a product, large group tours will not last very long. Only first-time travellers or senior citizens who want the safety of people around them are opting for such tours. But youngsters, even when they are first-time travellers, want to go by themselves and want an individual, customised package. She also finds that itineraries are getting tweaked by individuals who make alterations and add their own preferences. Today’s Indian traveller is very mature and evolved. He is not willing to take the recommendations of the travel agent, he knows his mind and has done enough study of the destination on the Net. Most people, she adds, go at least to two or three vendors before making up their minds, and negotiate hard for good deals. The average Indian traveller is cost-conscious and normally sets out a budget â€" between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh â€" and asks the Yatra.com team to work around it. But then there is also the high-end customer for whom cost is no constraint. Needless to say, Yatra representatives make destination presentations on their laptops for such customers at their homes. As for food, Indian vegetarian is the most popular and we do try and arrange vegetarian food â€" at least one Indian meal a day â€" as far as possible. We get requests for Jain food from the Gujarat market. But the youngsters are willing to try out local cuisine, but after 2-3 days all Indians want an Indian meal! While many people pay online for their bookings, there are those who prefer to visit one of Yatra’s 15 lounges in the country and pay by cash or cheque. But we do encourage people to pay online.

New Brazil Visa Requirements

A Brazil visa is mandatory for U.S. citizens who plan to visit Brazil for any purpose, whether for tourism or business, work or study. Recently, new requirements have been established by the Brazilian government. Applicants need to be aware of these requirements and plan accordingly in order to avoid complications with travel plans.

The first new requirement is that applicants must complete the Brazil visa application form electronically. The form can no longer be downloaded, printed and completed in ink. Completing the electronic visa application is quite easy. The form is hosted by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. When applicants first attempt to visit the site, a warning will appear stating that the site uses an unknown certificate. You first need to allow your browser to access the website.

Brazil's visa application is divided into four sections: General Data, Documents, Occupation and Addresses. In the General Data section, requested information includes full name, sex, marital status, date and place of birth, nationality and parents' full names. The Occupation section asks for your profession and employer as well as work address and email. If you are a student, you must include the name of your school. In the Document section, you enter in information about your passport. Finally, the Addresses section provides places for permanent residence, current address and contact in Brazil.

After completing and submitting the form, you can print the completed application. You will also be provided with a protocol number. With this number in hand, you have to make an appointment at the Brazilian embassy or consulate that has jurisdiction over the state where you reside. This is the second new requirement.

Brazil's consulate services no longer accept walk-in applications. They only attend by appointment. To make the appointment, you need to visit the appropriate consulate's online visa appointment system and create an user's account. You then log in using the protocol number and your password. Your appointment must be scheduled within 30 days of the date that you completed the Brazilian application form or you will have to complete another.

Take the completed and signed visa application, supporting documents and proof of payment to your scheduled appointment. The Brazilian consulate no longer accepts visa applications by mail. If you are unable to appear, you can authorize a third party to go in your place and represent you. If you do choose to use a third party, you need to provide them with a copy of your driver's license in addition to the other required documents.

Besides the new requirements listed above, you also need to consider that the high demand for visas to Brazil has caused the consulate services to increase processing times. It is important to understand that the time of year in which you are applying for a Brazil visa can affect the time it takes for your application to be processed. You should plan accordingly. If your trip is scheduled during peak travel season, expect it to take longer than it would during the off season.

Egypt Travel - Getting There and Around

Egypt's mystical and timeless appeal has for centuries seen the ancient country being ranked among the most spectacular sightseeing destinations in the world.

Egypt is reached by air, water as well as road and rail. Those travelling by air can come in through Cairo International Airport, Alexandria, Nozah, Luxor and Aswan in Upper Egypt, Hurghaba in the Red Sea area, and Sharm El-Sheikh in South Sinai.

There are several airliners that offer Egypt flights including British Airways, Alitalia, Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Dutch Airlines, and Thai Airways International.

In addition to airports there are a number of marine harbors for those that prefer to travel by sea. For those travelling on the Mediterranean Sea, the ports of Alexandria, Port Said, and Damietta are all possible entry points. There is also a port right at the Gulf of Suez and another, the port of Nuweiba on the Gulf of Aqaba. The Red Sea offers three options for travellers; the ports of Hurghaba, Safaga, and Sharm El-Sheikh.

For those who prefer road trips, there are three overland entry posts. The Salloum entry post is located on the northwestern border (for those coming in from Lybia). The famous Rafah crossing is on the northeastern border for those coming in from the Gaza strip, the Occupied Territories, and Israel. On the eastern border there is a post at Taba for those coming in from Israel.

Getting the right paper work and visa is essential to a stress free entry into Egypt. Non-Egyptian visitors arriving in Egypt are required to be in possession of a valid passport. Visas can be obtained from either the Egyptian Diplomatic and consular Missions Abroad, the Entry Visa Department, or from Immigration and Nationality Administration (TDINA). However it is possible for visitors to obtain an entry visa at any major points of entry.

Visitors entering Egypt at the overland border post to Taba to visit Gulf of Aqaba coast and St. Catherine can be exempted from visa and granted a free residence permit for fourteen days to visit the area. Citizens of the following countries are required to be in possession of a pre-arrival visa: Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chechnya, Croatia, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Lebanon, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, The Philippines, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sri-Lanka, Tadzhikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and all African countries.

Those in possession of a residence permit in Egypt are not required to obtain an entry visa if they leave the country and return to it within the validity of their residence permit or within six months, whichever period is less. There are three kinds of visas to Egypt. Tourist visas are usually valid for a period not exceeding three months and granted on either single or multiple entry basis. Entry visa are required of any visitors arriving in Egypt for purposes such as work, and study that are not related to tourism. This visa is necessary for the completion of the residence procedure in Egypt. Transit visas are made available to travellers transiting through Egypt. Once in Egypt, visitors have different options to get around the country in an easy and comfortable way. The options range from car rental, luxury trains, and coaches to domestic flights to connect tourist cities.

If you are coming in through Cairo International, you have the option of renting a limousine with fixed fees according to your accommodation location from the airport, or use Cairo airport transportation service which covers all the country and airports. You can request for this service through your travel agent or from the information desk at the airport.

The easiest and most common way of moving within any city is by taxis. This are easily available in the major cities, Cairo, for instance, has a fleet of air-conditioned and metered yellow cabs. One is whoever advised to book their taxis at least an hour before their intended time for their trip. In some cases it is recommended that you ask for a receipt as proof of payment to avoid any inconvenience later. Alternatively one could catch a regular taxi on the street or even in front of their hotel. They are usually coloured depending on the city they operate in. in Alexandria they are yellow and black, in Cairo they are black and white. It is very important to know the colour codes in different cities so that you minimize risks.

Egypt's major cities have a healthy bus system within and between the cities. Examples of which are Super Jet, Delta and Upper Egypt buses. They go from city to city and they provide catering facilities, toilets and on board entertainment. The con in travelling with buses is that they stop far too often thus taking too long especially on long distance trips. Rail travel is highly recommended for long distance travel.

The underground, which is comprised of two long lines, is the cheapest and fastest way to move inside Cairo and Giza governorate especially in the rush hours (from 2 pm to 5pm). The first, from Helwan to El Marg has 33 stops; the second, from Giza to Shoubra El Khema has 18 stops. Note that the first carriage on each train is always strictly for women. Summer working hours are from 6:00 am to 1:00 am and winter working hours are from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Many transportation companies offer a wide choice of luxury cars and coaches with well trained drivers. Car rental agencies are represented in the major cities as well as the international and domestic airports. The train is one of the best ways to travel between major Egyptian cities.

Three kinds of trains are available: the ordinary, the express, and the turbo. The express and the turbo are the more expensive options, but they come with the advantage of a pampered journey taking you to your destination rapidly with all catering facilities and air-conditioning. An excellent turbo train service is available between Cairo and main cities around the country. The train takes about two hours to go from Cairo to Alexandria.

For those who prefer to travel by air locally, Egypt Air - the national carrier - links most of the tourist cities in Egypt with its reliable domestic flights. It is possible to fly directly from Luxor to Sharm El Sheikh or Alexandria.

Did you know that some consulates and embassies do not let visitors enter the country unless they have proof of health insurance? There is nothing worse than thinking that you are taking a trip of a lifetime, just to find out that lack of insurance coverage is going to cut you short.

Through Visa Health Insurance you will be able to get all of the coverage that you need. This includes everything from health to travel insurance and much more. The great thing about the programs offered by Visa Health Insurance is that they are tailored to meet the exact needs of each and every traveler. And of course, the programs offered by Visa Health Insurance are not going to cost you an arm and a leg. You should have no problems getting the coverage that you need to travel without having to break your entire budget.

There are two reasons that traveling internationally without health insurance is a bad idea. First off, it will put your health at risk if something were to happen to you; and this is never a good thing. On top of that, as mentioned above, you will not be able to gain access to some countries without the proper health insurance.

All in all, let Visa Health Insurance get you ready for your next international excursion. You will be glad that you did when you are traveling without a care in the world!

The Chase Travel Plus Platinum Visa Compared

Chase has recently added the Chase Travel Plus Platinum Visa to its large offering of rewards credit cards. This low APR, low annual fee travel rewards credit card offers consumers the ability to choose their travel rewards without blackout dates. The question is: how does it compare to other travel credit cards?
Travel Plus Platinum Visa Benefits: Like most travel rewards credit cards, the Travel Plus allows consumers to earn 1 mile for every dollar in purchases. Points can be redeemed for a variety of travel rewards including airline tickets, hotel stays, cruises, and car rentals. Additionally, you can travel domestically or internationally with no blackout dates and choose from over 250 airlines without restrictions. The Travel Plus rewards program is similar to the Flexible Rewards program offered by Chase in that it gives consumers flexibility in using their rewards.
Travel Plus Rate Information: Unlike many travel rewards credit cards that charge exorbitant annual fees, the Travel Plus charges a reasonable $29 a year. However, this small annual fee is easily offset by the value of the 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers that is in effect for up to 1 year. After that, the variable interest rate is as low as Prime plus 5.99%.
Comparable Credit Cards: The Travel Plus Platinum Visa is unique in that it offers flexibility with regard to how your travel rewards can be used. However, consumers that are willing to sacrifice flexibility may find general airline rewards credit cards to be of better value. For example, The Miles Card from Discover ฎ Card offers consumers 5,000 bonus miles after their first purchase and charges no annual fee. However, rewards are limited strictly to airline travel. Similarly, the Citi PremierPass (SM) Card offers consumers similar benefits. With this card, you can get up to 15,000 bonus miles after your first purchase. However, an annual fee of $75 is charged. This fee can be avoided by choosing to only receive 5,000 bonus miles and a downsized reward program.
Lastly, Chase offers a number of credit cards that offer Flexible Rewards, including the Chase Platinum card and the Chase Flexible Rewards card. With these no annual fee credit cards, consumers can choose from not only a variety of travel rewards, but also, cashback, giftcards, and merchandise. For those looking to avoid the $29 annual fee, but still seeking flexibility with their credit card rewards, these Chase credit cards may provide the best overall value.
Final Words: The Chase Travel Plus Platinum Visa is among the better travel rewards cards currently on the market, and for individuals looking to earn general travel rewards, it may be the best currently available. However, there are a number of other travel and general rewards credit cards from Chase as well as other issuers that may be worth taking a look at. And, as I always say, read the fine print before making your decision.

Don't Risk It, Get the Protection and Security You Need With Travel Insurance

Let's face it, getting travel insurance can be a very overwhelming and tedious process, making it easy to put off and even forget entirely. But before you head off on your international adventure, you might want to consider getting coverage through some travel insurance, just to be on the safe side.

With some luck, you'll be glad it's something you have and won't need to use. But we all know that in life things happen, so it's a good idea to find a travel insurance policy that fits your individual needs, travel agenda, and budget. Many travel agents and private companies offer travel insurance, and they have a wide variety of types and options to choice from.

What does Travel Insurance cover?

Basic coverage of travel insurance includes some financial losses while traveling, as well as limited medical expenses, including medical evacuation. The most common type of travel insurance is trip cancellation or trip delay insurance. This type of policy covers you and your travel companions in case you need to cancel, interrupt or delay your trip. However, the acceptable reasons for canceling or interrupting your trip will depend on the insurance policy, but most likely you'll be covered for the following reasons:

• Sudden business conflicts • Change of mind • Delay in processing your visa or passport • Illness or injury • Weather related issues

In case your flight is canceled or delayed, travel insurance companies may provide additional coverage such as expenses that the airlines won't cover, like taxi fares to the hotel or meals during your wait at the airport.

It's also a good idea to have a plan with medical coverage of up to $1,000,000 in the case you become ill, need medical assistance, or have a flight accident occur. It's also good to review the amount deductible by your insurance plan (this is the amount you'll need to come up with before the insurance company picks of the rest). Make sure it covers repatriation (evacuation to your home country, rather than the nearest regional medical facility); make sure that does not mean you will be sent to the country where you purchased your travel insurance plan either, but your home country. If you're planning a visit to multiple countries, make sure all the countries are included in the region covered by your insurance policy.

To learn more about these types of coverage and more specialized coverage, read The Basics of Travel Insurance.

To invest or not? How to make travel insurance work for me.

Purchasing travel insurance is great for insuring your money, should any unforeseen events pop-up, especially if you invest large sums of money on extravagant travel packages. To determine whether you want to invest in travel insurance your not, ask yourself these questions:

• Did you invest a lot of money into your travel plans? • Are you traveling overseas? • Which regions or countries are you visiting and for how long? • Are you planning on participating in any extreme sports? • Can you afford the cost of your trip back home if any emergency arises? • Will you be able to afford medical care if you or someone you are with gets sick and needs immediate medical attention? • How old are you and how is your overall health? • Do you have any pre-existing conditions that need regular, special attention?

You can purchase your travel insurance for a single trip, multi-trip, or with an annual policy, all depending on how frequently you travel and the length of your trip. Comprehensive travel insurance can cost anywhere from 4% to 8% of the cost of your trip, depending on type of coverage, the length of the trip, the destination, and the age of the travelers. It is best to purchase your travel insurance between 7 to 21 days of purchasing your travel itinerary. Usually the maximum coverage period for insurance providers is for one year abroad.

Go through the fine print on your policy and check whether you will have to pay on the spot and redeem the money later for any medical expenses, or will the insurance company pay providers directly. If you have to claim it later on, you will want to hang on to all documents.

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, get an insurance policy that will specifically cover it. Also examine which adventure sports and activities the plan does and does not cover (rarely does it include scuba diving and hang gliding). Lastly, for your benefit, a policy that is flexible and can be extended while you're already away is recommended. You never know whom you'll meet, and you just might want to extend your trip.

Another good tip would be to get in touch with your credit card issuer before investing in travel insurance. At http://www.creditcards.com/, a credit card information site, suggests calling your credit card issuer to see if you have any free travel benefits that you may not be aware of, for example, insurance on lost or damaged luggage. However, according to USTIA, canceling a trip at the last minute and being reimbursed by your credit card company is the most common misconceptions among travelers. And sometimes credit card companies have limitations on only cover up to 3 months of travel. It's worth investigating.

Lastly, if you have existing health coverage, it would be wise to get in touch with them before hand, especially if you will need vaccinations and other medicine for your trip. Depending on your health insurance plan, ask for a 'travel packet' and they will send you important information regarding your coverage, if any, while abroad. It might turn out you might already be covered for somethings, but not for others.

Where can I purchase Travel Insurance?

There are many sites and companies offering travel insurance online. Among them are leading companies such as World Nomads, Travel Guard, and InsureMyTrip, just to name a few. A new online resource called Squaremouth, helps travelers easily and instantly compare all the major travel insurance plans at one site. You'll be able to get immediate quotes from several major, reputable travel insurance providers and compare policies and their prices. It's a good starting point and one that you can trust.

Helpful Tips for once you've purchased your Travel Insurance:

• Scan your insurance policy electronically and save it somewhere securely online • Make one copy for yourself to bring on your trip • Make another copy for a trusted family member to keep at home • Have the emergency hotline number accessible during your trip, but make sure you try it out before leaving home to ensure its operating and correct • List out any medications you are taking (including vaccinations for your trip), and a list of allergies you have; keep this with your insurance emergency number • Keep all receipts at home • Review all the fine print in your insurance policy and determine which adventures you will be taking and which risks might not be worth it

Finally, get ready for a trip of a lifetime! Hopefully you'll avoid ever using your insurance plan, but it will give you and your loved ones more security knowing you're protected.

Caribbean Countries Unite To Make Travel Easier

Between February 1st and May 15th 2007, 10 Caribbean nations will join together in an unprecedented effort to simplify travel restrictions. Inspired by the hosting of the Cricket World Cup - the third largest sporting event in the world - these Caribbean nations will allow visitors to travel between the islands without the hassle of international customs or visas. Furthermore, all 10 nations participating in the Cricket World Cup are located relatively close together, allowing travelers to easily visit several unique destinations in one vacation.

Though the Cricket World Cup is scheduled to run from March 5 to April 28, the additional six weeks of hassle-free travel have been allotted to lure additional tourists to the Caribbean. Therefore, you could even take advantage of this travel agreement in early May - after the Cricket World Cup is completed - and hop between islands for a two-week vacation.

Here is a list of the Caribbean nations you will be able to visit without the normal hassles of international travel:

• Antigua and Barbuda
• Barbados
• Dominica
• Grenada
• Guyana
• Jamaica
• St. Kitts and Nevis
• St. Lucia
• St. Vincent and The Grenadines
• Trinidad and Tobago

Once you arrive at one of the island nations listed above and clear customs, you will then be able to travel to the other nations without any immigration procedures. For those accustomed to traveling between states in the U.S., this may not seem significant. However, considering the stringent travel guidelines put in place at the beginning of year, this agreement is truly a unique opportunity.

Another great aspect of this agreement is that most visitors won't need to acquire visas for their travel. Residents of the following nations will be allowed to visit any of the 10 countries involved in the Cricket World Cup agreement without a visa:

• United States and Dependent Territories
• United Kingdom and Dependent Territories
• Canada
• France and Dependant Territories
• The Netherlands and Dependant Territories
• Germany
• Spain
• Japan
• Italy
• IrelandSouth Africa
• CARICOM Member Nations (except Haiti)

It is estimated that nearly 95% of the current visitors to these Caribbean nations will be able to travel without visas during this travel window. Even the nations that require a visa for travel will find the process greatly simplified.

Prior to the announcement of this travel assistance program, Caribbean nations banded together for several political and economic reasons. CARICOM, short for "Caribbean Community," is composed of 15 Caribbean nations devoted to increasing tourism opportunities and activities. Beyond the development of long-term tourism assistance programs, CARICOM will also streamline the visa process during the Cricket World Cup for all visitors from nations not listed above. The visa program will include a special website for applications, a 24-hour hotline for visa assistance, three-day turnarounds for visa requests, waiving of visa fees for children 12 and under and additional preparation for visitor emergencies. As helpful as the CARICOM programs are today for travelers looking to secure a visa, this group of Caribbean nations will only make life easier for all tourists in the years to come.

Most importantly, you don't need to visit or participate in the Cricket World Cup to take advantage of this travel opportunity. Besides the high-profile cricket matches, the Cricket World Cup will also bring plenty of events to the islands. Though these Caribbean islands are always centers of activity, the Cricket World Cup is certain to draw even more festivals, live music and fine art events.

Whether you are a cricket fan or not, there has never been a better time to visit the Caribbean. Book a flight and get ready to experience these unique and exotic islands for yourself.

What is a J1 Visa?

A lot of people are issued J1 visas every year to enter the United States. This is permitted by the Mutual Educational and the Cultural Exchange Act (1961).

The whole purpose behind this J1 visa program was to increase knowledge sharing and mutual understanding, between the US and the rest of the world. This is because of the fact that the United States government was looking forward to establish a long lasting friendly relationships with other countries. Thus what could be better than sharing knowledge and culture as a first step towards establishing the friendship? Under the JI visa program a lot of foreign individuals travel to the United States every year and get a valuable opportunity to see, experience and understand the United States, the US life style, the people and their culture here.

A lot of reputed companies also get in their staff to train or upgrade their skills as a part of this J1 visa program. The maximum duration of the J1 Visa is for a year. The stay could however be stretched over for another additional six months, by completion of the due formalities with the office of exchange coordination and designation. If you are a foreign national and you have come here to the US as a part of the J1 visa program that certainly means that you would be allowed to go to office of the sponsorer. Take all the kind of trainings that would be involved. But you should not be involved in any direct production. As far as the salary goes you would be eligible for the minimum wages prevalent in the United States at that point of time. Please note that you are eligible to the wages declared either by the state or the center which ever is higher. This would be considered as the cost that you would incur to live in the United States for that period of time. Apart from that you would also be entitled to receive the wages from the country that you come from originally.

Overall the J1 Visa program is a good experience and enriches a person. They get to know of the life in the states. While people they come and meet with they also get a flavor of the cultural back ground the visitor is from. Thus this program can be termed as mutually beneficial for both the parties.

Bali Travel Information

Bali is just one of 17,000 islands that make up Indonesia and is definitely the most popular island target for holiday makers. All around the world, Bali is recognized as a paradise island with sun drenched beaches, white sand, excellent surf spots, fishing towns, and much more. When you travel to Bali you are not only going to stay in some of the most plush Bali accommodation that is on par with any other spot on earth, but you'll find small towns that have not changed in centuries and it will be as though you stepped back in time.

Balinese people are extremely friendly and will always return a smile and attempt to make you feel as cozy as possible by providing wonderful services when you stay with them. Some places do not allow tipping, but you will always wish to even in the most costly restaurants because of the attention and service you'll receive. The currency that is used in Bali is the IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) and coming from a developed country your money will go a long way.

Manners and respect are vital to the Balinese, so it is important to learn a couple of their customs. Although they are accepting of the westerners ways you will always find that people will be much friendlier if you try to observe there customs, even if you don't get it right, they 'll appreciate your effort.

Some of the most significant ones that will cause offense are; never touch or pat someone on the head, including children as it is considered awfully rude. Taking your shoes off before entering someone's house is a sign of respect. Pointing with your hand is okay, but never point with your foot. When visiting a temple, don't hang any clothing on the temple walls, Balinese people take their religion seriously, always sit lower than holy objects and honored guests at marriages or ceremonies. When doing your washing hang your underwear on the lowest rung and if going for a walk don't walk under a washing line so that underwear is above your head.

Getting to Bali is reasonably straightforward from any country and flights leave daily, though a stopover could be required from some places. There are no Bali visa requirements if you hold a passport of one of the Indonesian countries and most other nationals can get a visa simply. VOA (visas on arrival) are available at the airport when you land and cost between $10 and $25 depending how long you are staying, a $25 visa will give you 30days. Never overstay your visa as the Indonesian countries are very stern when it comes to this.

Before you decide to go to Bali, always be sure to check with your doctor for any shots that you may need. The reason that Bali is a beautiful country is that it is tropical and with the superb foliage and marine life comes some nasty little bugs. You'll be quite safe if you get all your jags before you leave. One thing that you should not do is drink the tap water, and some people advise not to clean your pearly whites with it either. Bottled water is inexpensive and widely available so use it. If you don't you could end up with a thing by the name of Bali Belly and you do not need or want this.

Taking a few cares and following some simple advice will make sure that your vacation is a problem free one and that you can enjoy all that Bali has to offer which is a lot. Given that a holiday is generally short it is important to head this advise as a bad case of some tropical infirmity could devastate your holiday and see you lying in bed for the whole duration.

When traveling to Bali on holiday it is important to have the right Bali Travel Information, from flight schedules to visa requirements. For everything you need to make your travel plans easy, visit Bali Accommodation for all the latest up to date information.

Thai Visa Issues

The rules and regulation regarding Thai visa obtainment can be byzantine at the best of times. The reason for this complexity is due to the fact that the rules have been constantly in a state of flux for years. This situation can cause many foreigners in Thailand a great deal of consternation. The first aspect of Thai Immigration procedure that throws many people off is the fact that there seem to be competing rules and regulations that are in operation contemporaneously. This is due to the fact that two government agencies have been deputized with the authority to monitor immigration into the Kingdom of Thailand. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has authority over the issuance of Thai visas and travel documents at Thai diplomatic and consular posts outside of the Kingdom of Thailand. The section of the Thai Police Department known as the Royal Thai Immigration Police is a special branch which operates semi-independently of the regular police department. This organization is tasked with overseeing non-Immigrants, Immigrants, and Permanent Residents in the Kingdom of Thailand. Both of these government offices have different criteria for adjudicating a foreign national's immigration status. The Embassies and Consulates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are permitted wide latitude in determining whether an applicant should be issued a Thai visa. Further, these posts are only permitted to issue visas for a limited period of validity (usually one year is the maximum that these posts may issue visas for). The Thai Immigration Police have a method for categorizing the various people present within Thailand's borders. Foreign nationals from select countries are allowed to enter Thailand without obtaining a visa. These people are technically present in the Kingdom on a visa exemption. Changing one's Thai visa status while present on an exemption can be difficult. Foreigners from some countries are extended the privilege of being able to apply for a visa on arrival. This means that the foreigner can travel to Thailand without a visa, but they will need to have a visa approved before they may pass through the Thai immigration checkpoint.Thai Immigration officers make decisions whether or not to permit foreigners to extend their stay in the Kingdom of Thailand. If approved, the applicant's visa status is extended and the foreigner may remain for the period of time that the immigration office dictates. On each 90 day anniversary of a foreigner's entrance into the Kingdom of Thailand the foreigner must update the Thai Immigration office regarding their current place of residence. Failure to keep the Immigration office updated could result in fines and penalties for the foreign national.

US K1 Fiancee Visa: When Can My Thai Fiancee Travel To The USA?

This piece is intended to provide accurate information regarding the issues involved with K1 visa issuance. All over the World Wide Web there are many authors, armchair attorneys, and outright frauds who claim expertise in the area of United States Immigration law. Hopefully, this article will eliminate some confusion and provide clarity. The process of acquiring a K1 visa is somewhat time consuming and can cause frustration for the the American Petitioner and Thai Beneficiary. In many cases, a couple will wait five or six months before being granted preliminary approval from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service. Upon approval, the application must be sent to the National Visa Center and then finally, in the case of Thai fiancee visa applications, to the file will be sent to the United States Embassy in Bangkok. For many, this process can be aggravating. In many cases, the wait ultimately results in the issuance of a valid K1 fiancee visa.Once the visa is issued, some American Citizen fiances become concerned about the information and dates noted on the visa itself. Of great concern is the notation on the visa which states: "K-1 Petition Expires on MM DD, YYYY.Some United States Citizens are under the mistaken impression that this implies the expiration of the visa. In reality, the visa is good for traveling to the United States until the expiration date noted on the visa. As a general rule, K1 fiance visas are distributed with a validity of six months. Although, they could be issued with more or less validity as it is technically at the discretion of the Consular Officer adjudicating the case at the United States Embassy in Bangkok. The visa's actual date of expiration can be the catalyst for perplexity also. The K1 visa is valid for six months after issuance. That being said, upon arriving in the United States and being admitted at the port of entry the K1 visa holder is only entitled to 90 days presence in the United States (it should be noted that if the visa holder does, in fact, marry the American and apply for adjustment of status, then she would be entitled to remain indefinitely provided the adjustment of status is approved and any conditions are lifted). Many people, after receiving the K1 visa, are confused by these differing dates. The important thing to bear in mind about the K1 visa is that it can be utilized within 6 months of its issuance and it provides 90 days of lawful status to the bearer upon entry. If the couple does not marry within 90 days, then the Thai fiancee will need to depart the USA before the visa's expiration.

Traveling With Credit Cards: What You Need To Know

As you make travel plans this summer, be sure to pack the plastic. Credit cards are a convenient tool to finance your trip. To make the most of them, it's best to keep a few factors in mind. Here's what you need to know before you go.

Plan Ahead

As you prepare for the trip, take a look at the credit cards you have. If you plan to travel abroad, consider carrying cards that are widely accepted, such as Visa or MasterCard. Taking along two credit cards is wise; this way, if one of the cards is not accepted, you have a backup.

Most credit card companies and issuers charge fees for international purchases. This expense, which covers the fees incurred for currency conversion, is usually 2-3% of the purchase amount. To find out how much you will be charged, call your credit card company and ask before you leave. In most cases, the fees you will have to pay will be less than what you would spend exchanging dollars or cashing in traveler's checks. This is because when you use a credit card, you usually receive the best exchange rate available.

A common problem for those traveling abroad involves purchases being blocked. This occurs because the international activity sets off a fraud alarm. For your safety, the credit card company does not allow the transaction. To avoid this potential dilemma, inform the company of your travel plans before you leave. They can make a note on your account that allows foreign transactions to go through.

Finally, before you travel, send an email to yourself. Include the toll-free number for customer service at the credit card company. This way, if the card gets lost or stolen, you can access your email and call the company immediately to stop any account activity. Be a Smart Traveler Even after proper planning, you will still want to be careful when traveling with credit cards. Make sure all purchase transactions are done in your presence. Most restaurants and hotels will process the card in a public place in order to avoid fraudulent activity. Pay with cash if you have any doubts.

If the credit card transaction does not go through, call the company right away. Occasionally, a purchase will be blocked for security reasons, even after informing the company of your trip. If you speak with a representative, the hold can be released on the card. This can be done within a few minutes, allowing you to make the purchase.

Should your card get lost or stolen, report it immediately. You will only be responsible for up to $50 in unauthorized purchases. In some cases, you won't have to pay anything.

If you need to, you can use the credit card for cash advances. But remember that fees for these transactions can add up fast. If you will be unable to pay off the advance quickly, you may want to look into a different plan.

By preparing properly and taking safety precautions, you can travel easily with a credit card. They are more convenient than traveler's checks. And they offer you more protection than cash, which disappears if it gets stolen. By using a credit card, you can enjoy the many benefits of carrying plastic on your trip.

Preparing Your Visa Requirements For Australia

So, you're eyeballing the visa requirements for Australia, and you're worrying you will be left elbow-deep in a process that gets more and more difficult with each step. Well, you can forget being nervous now. Applying for Australian visas is much easier than you think. Do you know you can even apply online? Here's how you go about it, and what documents to prepare.

1. Prepare your passport from your home country. If your passport will expire in six months or less, renew it before you ready other visa requirements for Australia.

2. Get a copy of your diploma. This should be from the highest educational level you completed. Americans should present at least a high school diploma while residents of Chile, Thailand, Turkey, and Malaysia must show a post-secondary education diploma.

3. Download your own copy of Form 1163i. See if any medical exam requirement is applicable to your application. Note that the requirement can vary depending on where you lived in the last five years and what type of work you will be doing in Australia. Get a medical exam, if necessary, and have your doctor prepare a report which you can show to immigration officials.

4. Get a health insurance to cover you for the duration of your Australian visit. If you have the money for it, buy a long-term insurance that you can use online.

5. Prepare a police-or penal clearance-certificate. You will need one for every place you stayed in for the past 12 months.

6. Phone the Australian Immigration office assigned to your country. Ask for any special or additional requirements that may apply to you. Don't forget to ask about their accepted payment method.

7. Print out, and then complete, Form 1208. This is the form for the Application for Work and Holiday Visa, and you can get this from the website of Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

8. Make certified copies of each page of your passport. Don't forget to get two passport-sized photos taken.

9. Prepare all of the documents listed above. Then, send them-along with your passport's certified copies and $195, in the form of payment appropriate-to the Australian Immigration Office nearest you. Remember, send certified copies, not the actual passport.

After preparing and submitting your visa requirements for Australia, it's time for the most difficult step in the whole process: waiting. You'll have to wait for approval before you do anything. On the upside, you won't actually need your visa to be stamped on your passport. Visa approval is electronically relayed to border authorities. Good luck!

Passport Applications For 2007, 2008 - A Travel Guide For Us Citizens

Most who plan on traveling internationally probably know that new travel document requirements have been in place since January of 2007. Additionally, new regulations take effect in January of 2008. Here are some key considerations to make your preparations easier.

PASSPORTS: Because of new regulations required by the Homeland Security Act, passports are now required for air travel in Western Hemisphere countries that were previously exempt. Beginning in January 2008 those regulations extend to land and sea travel as well.

If you have never before obtained a passport, the procedures may be a little intimidating, but it's very simple if you thoroughly research and complete the requirements well ahead of your anticipated travel date. Waiting too late and having to hurry or pay extra for expedited service simply adds to the pressure and the costs. Consider the following steps and resources.

• Begin the process of obtaining a passport and required visas well in advance of your travel date - by as much as 6 months.

• Thoroughly research passport and visa requirements. Do not assume anything. Requirements may change without much warning.

• Obtain the application, one for each member of the family that is traveling, including children and infants. As always, check the most up-to-date sources because requirements change. Ask questions. The applications may be obtained from many US Post Offices but must be delivered only to specified US Post Offices. See below for the link to the official US government site for specifics.

• Obtain 2 official passport pictures. Most portrait photographers can supply these, including Wal-Mart Stores that maintain a photography studio. Some US Post offices also offer photography services.

• Save your money for the occasion. The total passport fee is just under $100, not including the passport pictures. If you have to expedite the process, costs may be 2 or 3 times as much.

VISAS: Before you travel to a foreign country, check with the embassy or consulate of the country that you plan to visit. Ask specifically for their visa requirements. Be sure to mention the date of travel, because requirements change from time to time and you must comply with current regulations. The U.S. Department of State maintains a web site that contains information about visa requirements, but it may not be up to date.

Again, this is something you want to start on early in your planning stages because it may take you a few weeks to contact the appropriate agency and to receive response back. If you are required to secure a visa, that too will take time.

As with any official documents, when you receive them, check them carefully for accuracy. You do not want to be held up at the ticket counter or the customs gate because of what may seem to you to be an insignificant spelling or typo mistake. No mistakes are insignificant.

Just a word of encouragement with documentation. Carry with you always your personal picture ID and birth certificate and copies of your required documentation. If you are for any reason stopped at a checkpoint because of some inconsistency in paperwork, additional copies and more-than-required documentation may save you time and hassle. And, last of all, looking at the overall picture, a very low percentage of travelers experience any problems with documentation. Follow the requirements. Do not attempt to skip steps, and you'll be just fine.

Getting the Correct Type of China Visa

All citizens and residents of the US wishing to travel to and in China must obtain a travel to China visa. However, there are six different types of china visa and it is important to make sure you get the correct one to avoid major difficulties with the Chinese government resulting from not having the proper paperwork while moving around in the country. The six types of travel in China visas are as follows:

Type L (tourist) visa - This is the type of visa issued to US citizens or residents who wish to visit China for the purpose of tourism, visiting family or friends, or for purely personal reasons. Tourists possessing a type L visa are not permitted to work or engage in any business activities while in the country.

Type F (business) visa - This type of visa is required of anyone seeking to conduct an investigation, give a lecture, participate in a technological, scientific, or cultural exchange, conduct business, or participate in advanced studies of a duration less than six months. Students on a type F visa may participate in an unpaid internship, but may not work in the country.

Type Z (work) visa - This is the type of visa required by anyone planning to accept employment in China. This person's dependents will also be issued a type Z visa.

Type X (Student) visa - This visa is required of students wishing to attend college in China to pursue higher education. The time allowed depends on the time frame for the course of study. Within thirty days of arrival, this visa must be converted to a Residence Permit by the Public Security Bureau in the town the student will be living/studying in. Proof of enrollment in a course of study and the length of the course must be provided.

Type C (crew) visa - This is a special type of visa only issued to flight crews who come into China and leave again the same day for work purposes. An overnight stay may be allowed, but extended stays in China are not permitted with a crew visa.

J1/J2 (News Media) visa - This is the type of visa issued to journalists and news agencies seeking admission to China for the purpose of covering news events. How long the visa will be good (how long the journalists can remain in China) will be determined at the time of issuance and is never more than a few months.

The reason for the visit to China determines which type of China visa is required. The rules governing each visa type are strict and must be adhered to completely or one will face criminal charges and or immediate deportation. When planning to travel to China, it is important to know the type of visa needed and submit the proper application forms and supporting documentation to make processing the application and issuing the correct visa as quick and easy as possible for the Chinese consulate and so that you will know the terms under which you are allowed to visit the country.

What to Think About When Applying For New Zealand Working Holiday Visa

New Zealand, located across the continent of Australia, is a relatively small, rugged but very scenic and tranquil nation. It's just about three hours by plane from Australia, and has a population of around 4 million people. The country's European settlers began to settle here in 1642, and today compose the majority of residents. The Maoris, or New Zealand's indigenous people, currently compose around 11% of the total population, and the rest are either Asian or Pacific islanders. It offers one of the highest living standards in the developed world, and has a thriving agro-industrial economy. Those who wish to travel and work in this lovely part of the South Pacific may now be able to do this, through applying for a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa. The country remains an integral part of the British Commonwealth, and has strong cultural and economic ties with the United Kingdom. In this part of the world, apple trees, sheep, kiwi fruit, olives and grapevines are common sights, and the landscape has a tranquil English countryside feel. New Zealand has three major cities. Auckland, located in the North Island, has a population of almost a million residents. Located in the North Island is the city of Wellington, which is the nation's capital, and situated across the Cook Strait in South Island is Christchurch, which is the nation's largest city. It has a population of 300,000 and is famous for resembling an ornate English town complete with elegant stone buildings, wide green gardens and a lovely river that cuts through the city's central commercial districtLiving costs in this country are relatively lower compared to the United States or Canada; however the wages are a bit lower than those two nations. The economy here thrives around agriculture, the services sector, and the farming/mining industry. For those wishing to travel and work at the same time, the most common visa issued to these types of travelers is the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa (WHV). This work and travel visa is however, only limited to persons who live in countries that have reciprocal arrangements with New Zealand. Among the nations that have this arrangement with New Zealand are Canada, Argentina, Chile, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, France, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, Uruguay and the United Kingdom. In order to qualify for a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa, the residents of the following countries mentioned earlier need to be between 18 and 30 years old, are able to prove that they have access to sufficient funds to support themselves while in the country, do not have any dependent children with them while traveling, have not yet experienced working in New Zealand before, and can show evidence of adequate medical insurance for the duration of their visit. To legally work here, travelers also need to apply for an IRD number from the country's Inland Revenue bureau, for taxation purposes. In order to get an IRD number, all you need to do is to download and fill up the application form from the IRD Website and send these to the New Zealand Inland Revenue office. You may also download an IRD form while overseas. In addition, some of the nation's employers may require that you directly open a bank account, for the proper delivery of your salary and other temporary benefits. Although some banks here are quite wary of allowing foreigners to open a bank account, showing your working holiday visa and explaining that you are here for a year would help speed up the process.

Russia Travel Visa - Vodka And Old Friends

If you think getting a visa to travel to Russia is difficult, you should try getting one to travel around the country. Living in Russia, I needed just such a Russia travel visa. Russia Travel VisaUnlike many countries, foreigners in Russia must declare on their travel visa where they will travel in the country. If they want to add a location, they have to get a new, temporary visa for the location. Basically, it is red tape and bureaucracy out the ying yang. While living in Siberia, I was invited to speak at a human rights conference in the town of Tinda. I wasn't entirely sure where this was, but new I needed a temporary visa to get from my city to it. My host, Oleg Vladimirovich, told me getting one would be no problem. I should've known I was in trouble when our first stop was the liquor store. Four vodka bottles in hand, we hit our first stop at the home of a retired customs official who was married to someone's half brothers third sister and so on. We reminisced and drank shots for a half hour or so. Feeling no pain, the customs official called a friend and off we went to meet him while leaving the open vodka bottle behind. At the new gentlemen's home, we cracked our second bottle of vodka. Reminiscing was undertaken, which left me out of the process since I had never met the chap before. Eventually, another phone call was made and we were off to make a new friend. As you can probably guess, this process was repeated two more times. At our final meeting, I was so "warm on the inside, cold on the outside" as Russians say when demurely sipping vodka that I was reminiscing with a man and wife who I had never met before in my life! Eventually, we obtained the necessary visa or something that wouldn't get me arrested. Oleg joked it was a "semi-visa". It might work or might not. Seeing double, I headed home to pack my stuff for the train.
